Director’s Message for July 2009
The importance of volunteers and members, to any organization is what keeps it vital and alive. Most recently, a York Senior Center 'new' member, commented on how nice the place looked both inside and out. Specifically referring to the seven window boxes on the exterior of our building. I told her how some of our members volunteered to "adopt" a window box - each one different and colorful, just like those who bought and planted them! A big thank you to each person, your good works have been noticed! Many members and staff bring in things like new puzzles, books, plants etc...to give the Center that 'homelike' atmosphere. Volunteers are at the front desk in the mornings to answer phones and collect the lunch money donations. Many hands make for light work when it comes to mailing The Scoop newsletter, working in the kitchen, bringing in produce, cleaning up, calling Bingo, watering plants and so much more. Thank you everyone, for all you do!
The members of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board volunteer their time and energy as well. They lead groups, prepare reports, visit people in the hospital, deliver newsletters around town - just to name a few. The plastic utensils for the dining room (if you forget your silverware) was supplied generously by a Board Member. They oversee daily programs and are here to help and listen.
If you have a desire to be of service please come by and speak to us about what you might like to participate in. Again, thank you one and all.
