More about Code Enforcement and Walk-In HoursMinimize

The Code Enforcement Department is also charged with the enforcement of the Shoreland Zoning Ordinance, the State of Maine internal plumbing and Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules and the Floodplain Management Ordinance. Each Ordinance has specific administrative procedures for the review of applications, inspections and enforcement. In addition to the rules that we administer, we are also required to enforce dozens of other State and Federal land use rules, regulations and laws. These duties utilize the majority of our staff time and efforts.

The Department has set hours when you may speak with a Code Enforcement Officer without an appointment.  These hours are:

Monday: 8:00 AM to 11:40 AM
Tuesday: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Wednesday: C L O S E D
Thursday: 8:00 AM to 11:40 AM
Friday: 8:00 AM to 11:40 AM

This time is an opportunity for you to ask general questions about codes and permitting, to review building files, and to submit permit applications for smaller projects such as decks, minor additions, garages and so forth.  This is not the time to submit applications for larger projects such as the construction of a new house or a new commercial building.  For larger projects, or for anything that will require more than about 15 minutes, please call 363-1002 and ask Catherine to help you schedule an appointment with one of our Code Enforcement Officers.

 Flood Information

The Town of York wants to ensure all our citizens and visitors are fully aware of the hazards related to flooding. While our Town does not regularly experience flooding, the York and Cape Neddick Rivers have reached the flooding stage on several occasions and will continue to do so, given the right set of circumstances. It's imporant to know that street flooding from pooling water is common in our area, and we want everyone to be aware of the risks of all types of floods and know what action to take in the event of a flood. This portion of our website is designed to bring our community members important flood information pertinent to York. Please take some time to read through these topics, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us any of the following ways:
