Director’s Message for Thanksgiving 2009
The Town of York Senior Center will be closed November 26th and 27th for the Thanksgiving Holiday!
More information on programs, trips and special events will be listed in your upcoming Scoop. Now for your convenience it will also be posted on line. Join in, take part, enjoy! I hope everyone has a joyous and Happy Thanksgiving! It's a time to share and be with family and friends. Be well, drive safely and enjoy this special time of year.

Mission Statement
It is the mission of the York Senior Center to serve the needs of the Senior Citizens in a safe, homelike environment. Our programs are designed specifically with the senior population in mind, offering educational, health, social and recreational activities. Other seasonal elder services are available to our members.
The Center strives to offer each member opportunities to develop new skills, and maintain independence, promoting dignity and respect.

General Assistance/Welfare
General Assistance/Welfare Office
The municipality of York, Maine administers a General Assistance program for the support of the poor. Pursuant to Title 22 MRSA § 4305, the municipal officers have adopted the ordinance establishing the program. A copy of this ordinance is available for public inspection at the York Town Hall and the Department of Human Services. Also available for inspection is a copy of the State of Maine General Assistance Statutes, as the State of Maine Department of Human Services makes copies of the State law available to the municipality.
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so at 36 Main Street, York Maine. This office is located within the York Senior Center, behind the York Police Station.

Hours for application are: Tuesdays 3-6pm, Wednesday 1-3pm, and Thursday 3-6pm.
*Special days and hours may be arranged when necessary.
In an emergency, applicants may contact: The York Police Dispatch (207)363-4444.
The Municipality's General Assistance Administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application.
